Elad Ozeri, 42 years old, artist, goldsmith, gemologist and with a rich background in goldsmithing and Judaica works, chose to live and create in the rural and quiet environment of the Ramot Menashe area, after several years of activity in the young and innovative environment of Tel Aviv.
Elad absorbed his initial artistic inclinations as early as his childhood, in the Jerusalem of the 1980s of the last century, where he was exposed to the diverse colors of ancient traditions, whose greatness sometimes seems to have declined and sometimes it seems that their roots hold a strong hold on all the veins of the souls of the members of the different denominations and religions of Jerusalem.
The mixing of styles and the endless struggle between opposites runs as the second thread in Elad’s work. According to him, the endless struggle for a harmonious combination of scents, colors and different styles will always dominate his work.
According to Elad, this struggle of an artist against his own truths, and of a person against a stubborn and rigid material, processed with fire and hammer blows, shapes the material, but no less than that polishes the artist, his skill, his creativity, but also places limits on the artist’s power against the material . The signs of the artist’s war on the material are indeed clearly visible in Elad’s works.
While in his early works there is a clear attempt to control the material without straits and an attempt to subjugate it to the artist’s imagination, in his later works there is a recognition of the limitations of power, respect for the material and a deep insight that the complete subjugation of the material negates the vitality of the work, since the source of the magic of the work derives from the natural properties of the material, Qualities that, in Elad’s view, must be known and respected.
For years, Elad has been teaching goldsmithing to at-risk youth in various institutions in Israel. Connecting to the hearts and souls of these boys, whose fate betrayed them, through the work was for Elad a powerful human experience that reflected for him the power and healing power inherent in the work on the one hand, but on the other hand, the beauty of the souls of those boys and girls who allowed the work to crack the layers of armor and enter their hearts inside.
